Sascha Just

Born and raised in Berlin, Germany, where I still have strong roots, I live in my personal epicenter New York.

My film work is centered on capturing the magic of live performances. This passion for the performative arts inspired my documentary, Heirs, a music-driven portrait of New Orleans composed of three artists' journeys into the city's past: drummer/vibraphonist Jason Marsalis, Mardi Gras Indian Chief Darryl Montana, and theater artist Lisa D'Amour.

Another recent production is Ambassadors - The Native Jazz Quartet at Work that documents the four jazzmen German bass player Christian Fabian, Native Alaskan drummer Ed Littlefield,  Filipino-American pianist Reuel Lubag, and vibraphonist Jason Marsalis win the American Music Abroad competition and travel the world as Music Ambassadors for the US. Ambassadors screened, among others, at the American Documentary Film Festival in Palm Springs, CA, and the The Queens World Film Festival where it was nominated for best short doc.

I share my enthusiasm for filmmaking by teaching film production in the Communications Department of Baruch College, CUNY.
